The Center teams up with the Departments of Environmental Conservation and History of Art & Architecture as our meadow becomes a living lab. Sheep graze and student researchers explore the past, present, and possible futures of sheep, land management, and sustainability.

How did early moderns engage with the earth beyond land management?
Cobb is a mixture of subsoil, water, and straw, and was a natural building material used in the Renaissance. Students from UMass' Sustainability Initiative design and build a cobb oven at the Center.
